Opening Week MLB Picks

Ok, you're mad. I understand. I'm currently riding a 3-game losing streak and my final four picks were hot garbage.

But it's my fault. I should've never bet on college basketball. For one, you never know what those kids are going to do. Number two, the game's these days are free throw contest. I mean, thank God I didn't have any money to put on the national championship, otherwise I would've been stuck watching that entire snooze-fest.

But to make up for my miserable performance as of late, I've decided to gift you with a sure-fire MLB upset pick. Fire up one more big bet and make back all the money I've lost you this month.

MLB Baseball 7:10 p.m. EST

Atlanta Braves (+175) vs New York Mets (-225)

Bro Montana's Pick: Braves +175

This super-value pick comes with odd but sound reasoning. Bartolo Colon takes the mound for the Braves. He's been the Mets fans' favorite player for five years running. With his first start in New York only two games into the season, he's likely to get a standing ovation from the Mets crowd. This quick reunion should create an odd atmosphere for the home team, eliminating a strong home-field advantage. Jacob deGrom starts for the Mets and while the right-hander is a beast on the mound, I'm a bit worried about the velocity drop off on his fastball as well as his arm in general. This pick should really juice up your parlay.

MLB Baseball 7:10 p.m. EST

Pittsburgh Pirates (+151) vs Boston Redsox (-168)

Bro Montana's Pick: Redsox -168

This one's easy. Chris Sale is taking the mound for his first start in Boston after dominating the American League for a few years in Chicago. Pair this inaugural start with an overrated lineup and I expect Sale to shut them out. The odds should honestly be worse with Sale starting, so get your value while you can.

MLB Baseball 7:10 p.m. EST

Philadelphia Phillies (-105) vs Cincinnati Reds (+105)

Bro Montana's Pick: Reds (+105)

Normally a teams ace starts opening day. However, that's not the case for the Reds. At only 23 years old, Brandon Finnegan posted a sub-4 ERA last season and there's no reason not to expect the young flamethrower to regress this season. He brings a nasty repertoire of pitches with him every start and has a favorable history against the Phillies. Last season he opened against the Phillies and pitched a 6 solid innings notching 9 strikeouts in the process. I expect him to repeat this dominance in 2017.
